Since I'm not feeling in a celebratory mood today, what with everything taking place in the US right now, I thought today would be a good moment to focus on independence of a differet sort.
To wit, here are a few steps I'd like to focus on to build my engagement with the indieweb and small web communities:
- Replace "big web" social media and web activities with indieweb equivalents. I'm already doing this to a certain extent. The overwhelming majority of my social media usage is on Mastodon. This month I will also try to use the urge to scroll on TikTok or Instagram as a prompt to update my own spaces online, to include this blog/site.
- Prune my RSS lists and get back in the habit of consuming the web that way. Trying to find news and updates by browsing the internet tends to see me mired in algorithmic timelines or consuming content that isn't great for my mental health.
That's it for now, I think. I may add more as I go, but the fammily is in the midst of a major move right now. The last thing I need is to pile on a bunch of tasks and habit work right now. It may be a good opportunity to anchor some new habits to the change in environment and routine later on, but we're not there just yet.
